Ground Penetrating Radar Image of a Sinkhole
A sinkhole can exist under homes and buildings, roadways, train tracks, and airport runways. A sinkhole usually occurs in karst limestone areas but can also occur in areas with soft soil, in mining areas, or where some other subsurface disturbance has occurred. A sinkhole can be located using ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys.
